". Although Corvette was always America’s sports car, when Larry Shinoda and his staff in Corvette design began work on the new Stingray, it is unlikely that they understood the impact that this design would have on the car world. Long considered a modern classic, the car’s aggressive lines and sleek profile were perfectly suited to its role as GM’s image leader. GM Design chief Bill Mitchell created the prototype Corvette, and the lines he penned would survive virtually untouched for five years. The big news for 1966 was that the General had upped the ante in the horsepower wars, offering a ground pounding big-block 427 that produced a solid 425hp. The example presented here is equipped with the L72 427/425hp engine, M21 four-speed transmission, F41 suspension, posi-traction rear end, soft top, side exhaust, headrests etc. loaded.
